Man Utd want £35m striker, Arsenal deal ‘very close’, Messi next club

Arsenal Transfer News Today : Arsenal are set to make their first signing of the summer with Real Sociedad star Martin Xubimendi.

The Gunners are currently locked in a battle with Manchester City to lift the Premier League. While their bid to end their wait for a domestic crown may have ended in disappointment, they still managed to book their place in the Champions League.

Ahead of their return to Europe’s top table, Mikel Arteta is already looking to add to the squad at his disposal. And the Gunners are entering their first deal before the transfer window even opens.

Real Sociedad midfielder Xubimendi is ‘very close’ to becoming an Arsenal player, according to Spanish outlet AS. He has reportedly been offered a deal to move to the Emirates and is keen to accept.

If he does arrive in north London, Arteta will have a much-needed midfielder ahead of next season. West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is rumored to be under consideration in the summer but Jubimendi would be the first to arrive.

Any deal would see the one-time Spain international make a drastic U-turn on his future. He has rejected a move to the Emirates in the past, while he was linked with a switch to Barcelona after his €60 million (£52.8m) release clause could be activated.

However, he disputed the possibility that he could leave Sociedad in the near future. Speaking last month, the 24-year-old said: “Rumors, rumours, because I told my agent I don’t want to hear anything, especially in the winter. It would be absurd to leave Real Sociedad. I’m very happy here.”

He added: “I’m looking forward to a quiet summer. Like the others and nothing.”

Jubimendi has been on fire for Sociedad this season in what has been a standout season. He made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

His contribution seems to be good enough for the team to finish the Champions League. They are currently fourth in the La Liga standings with a seven-point advantage over Villarreal with five matches of the season played.

While Xubimendi could be leaving Sociedad soon, one man who will at least stay is former Manchester City star David Silva. The experienced Spaniard has been with the club since leaving the Etihad in 2020.

Since then he has made 91 appearances in all competitions. The 37-year-old was due to be out of contract at the end of the current campaign but has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.
